Law Society Council and Committee meetings (Chancery Lane, London)

Council meetings:

  • 10 October, 5 & 6 December, 6 February, 27 March, 15 May.
  • Future meeting scheduled for 11 July.  Law Society AGM is on 11 July.
  • I participated in a teleconference on the Society’s budget for 2013 on 23 November.

Wales committee:

  • 3 October, 12 December, 13 March.
  • Future meeting scheduled for 5 June.
  • Silk Commission sub-committee meetings on 9 January, 23 January.
  • I chair this committee.

RAB Education and Training committee:

  • 12 September (teleconference), 20 September, 29 January, 12 March (teleconference), 21 May.
  • I missed the meeting on 1 November because I was on annual leave.
  • Future meeting scheduled for 23 July.

Other attendances and activities

  • I attended the annual Law Society lecture at the National Eisteddfod in Llandow on 9 August.
  • I was a member of the panels which interviewed applicants for vacancies on the Wales committee on 20 August and 11 December.
  • With Lowri Morgan I participated in a teleconference with Mark Stobbs, the Law Society’s director of policy, on 23 August.
  • I held meetings with Lowri Morgan at Capital Tower on 23 August, 18 September, 26 September 22 November 6 March 13 March and 3 June. 
  • I attended a meeting of the Law Society’s Legal Affairs and Policy Board (LAPB) at Chancery Lane on 27 September but I was unable to attend its meeting on 23 April due to illness.
  • I attended the LAPB Committee Chairs’ meeting on 14 November.
  • I attended the Counsel General’s public lecture Wales: a Jurisdiction? at Cardiff Law School on 15 November.
  • I attended the COLP Forum run by the Law Society jointly with Riliance on 28 November.
  • I wrote articles for the December, February, April and June issues of Legal News.
  • I wrote an article for the Comment section of the Law Society Gazette which it published on 14 January.
  • I was interviewed by Joshua Rozenberg for BBC Radio 4’s Law In Action programme on 11 February (though the interview didn’t make the broadcast).
  • I attended a meeting with Des Hudson, the Law Society’s treasurer and others concerning the electronic consultation on Welsh constituency boundaries on 6 February.
  • I attended the ACCA St David’s Day Breakfast at the Hilton Hotel on 1 March.
  • I participated in a teleconference with Des Hudson, the Law Society’s treasurer and others concerning the electronic consultation on Welsh constituency boundaries on 1 March.
  • I stood as a candidate in the election of the deputy vice president of the Law Society and was mentioned in the Law Society’s Legal News Summary of 16 April which published the result, and was named in the Legal Futures article of 16 April.
  • I wrote an article for the booklet for the Conference for Local Law Societies which took place on 19/20 April.
  • I attended the Cardiff Law Society annual dinner on 19 April.
  • I completed the Law Society’s Disability Confident and Unconscious Bias training courses on 30 April.
  • I attended the Law Society’s Criminal Law Roadshow at Capital Tower on 2 May.
  • I attended the Commission on Devolution in Wales Legal Seminar, organised by the Wales office on 17 May.
  • I attended the meeting of South Wales criminal practitioners on PCT at Capital Tower on 20 May.
  • I will be attending the meeting of the South Wales and Gwent steering committee against PCT at Capital Tower on 13 June.
  • I will be attending the LAPB Committee Chairs’ meeting on 27 June.

Cardiff & District Law Society meetings (Capital Tower, Cardiff)

Council meetings:

  • 3 September. 1 October, 5 November, 3 December, 7 January, 4 February, 4 March, 8 April, 13 May, 16 May (AGM), 3 June.
  • Future meeting is scheduled for 1 July.

Finance & Policy committee meetings:

  • 24 October, 13 December, 17 April.
  • I missed the meetings on 15 August, 19 September 26 November, 16 January, 20 February and 20 March because of work commitments and 15 May because of Law Society council meeting.

Regulatory Issues Sub-committee meetings:

  • I missed the meeting on 20 November.

Confederation of South Wales Law Society meetings:

  • I missed the meeting on 5 September and the AGM on 6 February as I was at Law Society council meeting.

Associated Law Societies of Wales meetings:

  • No meetings are scheduled.
