LOG OF LAW SOCIETY COUNCIL AND COMMITTEE MEETINGS ATTENDED 2013-2014

Council meetings:

16 October, 10 & 11 December, 17 December, 2 April.

I missed the meeting on 12 February because of flooding near Reading affecting rail travel.  I missed the meeting called at short notice for 24 February as I was teaching

Future meetings scheduled for 14 May, 9 & 10 July.  Law Society AGM is on 10 July. 

Wales committee:

10 October, 15 January, 5 March.

Future meeting scheduled for 4 June.

I chair this committee and my term ends on 31 August.

RAB Education and Training committee:

10 December, 25 February.

I missed the meeting on 22 October as I was on annual leave.

Future meetings scheduled for 20 May, 22 July.

I have been re-appointed to this committee for a further 3 year term, expiring in July 2017.

Other attendances and activities

I hosted Members’ Fora for Cardiff & District Law Society at Cardiff Law School on 24 September and 29 January.

I met Lowri Morgan at Capital Tower on 3 October, 18 November, 8 January,

I attended a meeting on Criminal Legal Aid at Cardiff Crown Court on 8 October.

I participated in the Three Courts Walk wearing a Law Society T shirt on 10 October.

I met the vice president of the Law Society and Lowri Morgan on 11 October to brief him about the Crown Court criminal legal aid meeting, before the Legal Wales conference.

I attended the Legal Wales conference dinner on 11 October.

I attended the Law Society’s Criminal Legal Aid Roadshows at Capital Tower on 17 October & 18 March.

I attended the SRA’s Training for Tomorrow Roadshows at Capital Tower on 11 November & 12 March.

I attended the launch of the University of South Wales’s Legal and Financial Advice Centre on 13 November.

I attended Lord Neuberger’s lecture Legal Education and Legal Practice in Tomorrow’s World at Cardiff University on 14 November.

I was appointed Junior Vice President of Cardiff and District Law Society on 2 December.

I attended the Law Society SGM at Chancery Lane on 17 December.

I attended the LAPB Committee Chairs’ meeting on 29 January.

I recommended to the LAPB the appointment of my successor as chair of the Wales committee and the re-appointment of a number of non-council members of the Wales committee.

I attended the briefing session on the 2nd report of the Silk Commission at the Millennium Centre on 3 March.

I chaired the Law Society’s Law Management Section’s Survive and Thrive course at Capital Tower on 24 March.

I attended the Law Society’s reception at the National Museum of Wales on 1 April.

I attended the Law Society Council dinner at the Hilton Hotel, Cardiff on 1 April.

I addressed the Law Society Council to report on the activity of the Wales committee on 2 April.

I circulated details of the vacancies on the Law Society’s Wales, access to justice, civil justice, criminal litigation, family and conveyancing and law committees on twitter, encouraging solicitors from Wales to apply.

I will attend Cardiff and District Law Society annual dinner on 4 April.

Cardiff Council meetings:

7 October, 4 November, 6 January, 3 February, 3 March.

I missed the meeting on 2 September as I was on annual leave.  I missed the meeting on 2 December as I was on compassionate leave.

Future meetings are scheduled for 7 April, 12 May, 15 May (AGM), 2 Jun, 7 July.

Cardiff Council Finance & Policy committee meetings:

18 September, 20 November, 22 January, 19 March.

I missed the meeting on 23 October as I was on annual leave.  I missed the meeting in December because I was on compassionate leave.  I missed the meeting on 12 February as I was locked out. 

Cardiff Council Regulatory Issues Sub-committee meetings:

No meetings are scheduled.

Confederation of South Wales Law Society meetings:

I attended the AGM at Entrecote, Mermaid Quay, on 5 March.

Associated Law Societies of Wales meetings:

No meetings are scheduled.
