Watkins & Gunn – with eCommerce still relatively new to the legal sector, the creation of a new eCommerce legal offering called “Gateway2Law” involves developing an enhanced web presence and software to provide a path to an online personalised legal service complete with payment facilities. At the recent IWA/Western Mail Welsh National Business Awards, debt collections specialists, CCI Legal, won the ‘Best Use of Foreign Languages in Business’ Award in recognition of its achievement in creating an International Call Centre in North Wales. The judges felt that CCI’s “language management strategy (in which communication and cultural empathy feature strongly) is undoubtedly part of their strength as a company.” Read more here.

HardingEvans – following stints at firms in London and Bristol, Jane Rogers has been appointed new medical negligence partner in HardingEvans’ medical negligence department. The appointment strengthens the firm’s position as one of the largest medical negligence teams in the country. Read more here.

NewLaw: Rhiannon Cambrook-Woods joins NewLaw after a period of significant growth and will be responsible for managing over 20,000 new claims per year with a team of over 240 people across the company’s 3 offices in Cardiff, Bristol and Basingstoke. Joining Rhiannon in the Cardiff office is Stuart Howard, who has been appointed as a Senior Litigator in the road traffic accidents team. With previous experience at London’s Lyons Davidson, Stuart will also be assisting with the streamlining of processes and providing his technical expertise and advice to junior handlers. Clarkslegal LLP - from the firm's Company and Commercial group, Rhiannon Holtham has been promoted to Partner and Suzie Chetri to Associate. According to the firm, these promotions reflect the excellent and very hard work done by Rhiannon and Suzie in building and maintaining its Welsh public sector clients over the past few years. They have both been instrumental in helping grow the firm’s general profile and reputation in Wales and will continue to develop project work; in particular on procurement, waste/environmental matters, social housing and education.

Geldards - Geldards LLP has today announced that it has acquired the business and assets of London-based niche public services practice TPP Law. Morgan Cole: partner Phil Jardine has been named as a member of the Cardiff Business Council (CBC), a new business body with a mandate to represent the views and interests of the private sector and other stakeholders in the Cardiff city region. As well as supporting the economic development of Cardiff and the capital region, it will also contribute towards the marketing and promotion of Cardiff and efforts to attract inward investment projects. Darwin Gray: one of the founders of Darwin Gray, Bethan Darwin, has announced she is to leave the Cardiff law firm. Ms Darwin is to join Commercial Conclusion as a consultant, where she will continue to specialise in employment and boardroom law. Commercial Conclusion was set up by her husband David Thompson in 2010. More here.

Wendy Hopkins Family Law Practice: The Cardiff firm, founded in 1996, has announced its conversion from traditional partnership to LLP status as well as taking on a new shareholder (“partner”) in in the form of Sarah Wyburn. Miss Wyburn joined the firm in 2000. More here.

The news was covered by the Law Society's Gazette and, as you can see by following the link here, is illustrated with a lovel photo of the "Wales landscape" - no doubt to remind everyone in England how beautiful Wales is!

At the society's AGM on 16 May 2013 in Cardiff, Simon Cradick was elected President of the Cardiff & District Law Society. Simon is a partner at Morgan Cole where he advises insurers on high value and complex personal injury claims. Simon is also the honorary secretary of the Welsh Personal Injury Lawyers Association and is listed in Chambers Legal Directory as a leading lawyer for defendant personal injury work in Wales. Simon will hold the position of President for one year and follows in the footsteps of his father, Roger Cradick, who was president in 1986. Simon replaces outgoing president Anne-Louise Ferguson of Legal & Risk Services (part of the NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership).

Greenaway Scott: Rhian Osborne has been promoted to Director of the Commercial & Contracts division of Cardiff based Greenaway Scott. Miss Osborne, graduated with a degree in neuroscience before moving into law and has previously worked for a biotechnology company. Greenaway Scott was set up by Nigel Greenaway in January 2013 and provides corporate, commercial and employment advice to companies, charities, co-operatives and community benefit societies. Wendy Hopkins: founded in 1996, Wendy Hopkins Family Law Practice LLP was Wales’ first specialist law firm dedicated solely to family law. Miss O’Connell, from Abergavenny, is a Cardiff graduate who joins the team after a successful two years as a paralegal, where she was able to gain experience of working on high-profile multi-million pound cases. Ms Chouhdary, of Cardiff, graduated from the University of Birmingham, then completed her legal practice course at the College of Law in Birmingham. See here for more.

Morgan Cole: Lawyers James Williams, Paula Kathrens and Penri Desscan (pictured below, left to right) have all been promoted to partners. Meanwhile, the firm’s professional indemnity team, led by partner Clare Hughes-Williams and comprised of one associate and three solicitors, has joined DAC Beachcroft in Newport. Having joined Morgan Cole in 1992 as a trainee and now a partner and the firm’s IT Director, Jeff Wright has also announced his intention to leave the firm to join Integreon as Vice President, Global Procurement and IT Service Delivery.
